Stay Tuned

You’ll see soon enough why this might rank among the worst puns I’ve punched out on JRWT to date…

I have to apologize for being a bad, bad blogger. For those of you waiting on India updates: please trust they are on their way. Without a need to delve into details, I will share that I’m finally standing tall, back on track, and ready to get my baby to where it needs and ought to be.

Since I left you last, I’ve traveled some 9,500 miles from India back to Canada, where I “sat still” (read: shopped and had my first [delicious] beer in three weeks) a mere twelve hours before we hit the road, bound for the Sasquatch music festival just past George, WA. This was, without a shred of doubt, one of the greatest weeks of my life. It is but another reason why I can say with confidence that the month of Jess was all kinds of successful.

Music is salvation. It is therapy. It is oxygen.

Here are a few very special mentions from this year’s top-notch lineup. I’m still in disbelief so many of my bucket-list bands blessed my ears with songs that have carried me through the years and the tears. Enjoy a sampling of my musical high:

I’d seen Bloc Party perform once before their split at home in Saskatoon, but this show blew me out of the water. I crept my way up to the front and then atop a friendly (and tall!) stranger’s shoulders for this one.

Mumford & Sons out-performed any expectations you could have for a festival headliner. I’ve never sang or danced so hard in my life, and never with friends better than those I had by my side. The Phoebe Buffay sexy voice I rocked for nearly a week after the fact is proof.

I’m not lying when I say I’ve waited for the Postal Service to perform this album since 2003. I’m also not lying when I tell you it was worth ten years of waiting.

This show – and this song in particular – stole the entire festival for me. I can’t do those 90 minutes justice in a few short sentences, so I won’t. What I can tell you, though, is Sigur Ros changed my life. A tiny accomplishment, I guess.

Anyone in our festing crew can attest I relished every single second of Sasquatch and am in eager anticipation of 2014. If you’re a music lover, you owe it to yourself to experience the Gorge – nature’s most beautiful amphitheatre – firsthand.

What songs define you?

(Surely by now you’ve figured out the pun…)
